Town Services & Information

Agnes Water and 1770 – twin towns 7km apart, the perfect holiday destination.

Our small towns are located on Australia’s east coast halfway between Gladstone and Bundaberg, nestled between the glorious coastline and pristine national parks, with the Southern Great Barrier Reef on our oceanic doorstep. No crocodiles, no marine stingers, the East Coast’s most northerly surf beach, endless golden sand, magnificent estuaries, pristine offshore waters for snorkelling and fishing, coastal rainforest, nesting turtles, gourmet food – what’s not to love!

We may be small (combined population of around 3000) but we have all the essential services including:

  • 3 supermarkets
  • 3 doctor surgeries
  • 2 pharmacies
  • 1 dentist
  • 1 ambulance service
  • 1 fire station
  • 1 fuel station
  • 1 police station
  • 1 post office
  • 1 vet
  • 1 utterly fantastic holiday shop (that’s us!)

What is the difference between agnes Water and 1770?

Agnes Water is the “central business district” where you’ll find all the above services, plus a range of accommodation and eating options, boutique shopping experiences, access to Main Beach and our beautiful southern beaches (Workman’s, Chinaman’s and Springs), the museum and us – Discover 1770 & Agnes Water – where you can plan all your holiday needs.

1770 is smaller with a sprinkling of eateries and accommodation and, most importantly, the marina, which gives you access to anything you need to do on a boat, from fishing and kayaking on the estuary to joining a trip Lady Musgrave Island and the Southern Great Barrier Reef.

The towns are connected by 7km of sealed road and a popular walking/biking track.
