When you visit our beautiful Agnes Water and 1770, here are the Must-Do activities to make the most of your stay.
VISIT THE REEF
Explore the Southern Great Barrier Reef with a tour to Lady Elliot, Heron or Lady Musgrave Islands where you can indulge in island exploration and snorkelling over coral gardens or, alternatively, join a diving expedition to really get amongst the fantastic marine life of the reef.
GET ON THE LARC
Our famous (and very bright pink) amphibious vehicles offer environmental cruises ranging from a day trip to Bustard Head Lighthouse (including sand boarding!) to luncheon cruises to shorter trips around 1770. Knowledgeable local guides make this one of our most popular tours.
GET ON THE WATER
Hire a stand-up paddle board or kayak to explore the waterways of 1770 (keep an eye out for dolphins and turtles) or hit the waves with a surfing lesson.
SEE THE SUNSET
It may be from a kayak or from a specialised cruise. It may be from the 1770 Headland or while picnicking on the 1770 foreshore. However you do it, make sure you catch a 1770 sunset over the water.
FLY IN A HELICOPTER
If you think we’re pretty at ground-level, wait until you see us from the air!
TAKE A HIKE
Explore the Red Rock trail, a 3-hour jaunt along headlands and secluded beaches. Discover the Discovery Trail, a favourite with bird-watchers. Find the butterflies as the Butterfly Walk winds through remnant rainforest. Walk the entirety of Main Beach from Agnes Water to 1770. Wander around the 1770 Headland and find a lookout, an anchor and the maritime memorial.
INDULGE IN FOODIE HEAVEN
Fish and chips on the beach, unique liquors from 1770 Distillery, fresh tropical fruits from the markets, the best gelato you will ever taste, Japanese sushi, poke bowls, tapas and cocktails, African curries, gourmet pizzas – we really are spoilt for choice.
HIRE A BIKE
A bike is the best, low-cost way to explore our towns. Ride from Agnes Water to 1770 along the bike path to visit the markets at the SES grounds or to explore the foreshore. Then head south and discover secluded beaches just waiting for you.
VISIT THE MUSEuM
Why are we called the Discovery Coast? How did 1770 get its name? What’s all this fuss about Captain Cook? Drop into the Agnes Water Museum and find the answers to all these questions and more.
EXPLORE THE NATIONAL PARKS
Eurimbula National Park, to the north of town, and Deepwater National Park, south of town, both offer pristine coastal environments. Explore quiet beaches, climb Ganoonga Noonga lookout, see sub-tropical rainforest and camp for a few days to take it all in.
